Summer is almost here and we are getting ready for some fun in the sun here at Shady Grove! We have a lot coming up, but first let's look at what happened in May for a few updates. updates Access Life Spring Fling Saturday, May 11, SGUMC hosted its fifth Spring Fling event. The theme for this year’s event was “Celebrating Birthdays” complete with balloons, birthday cake, and ice cream. This event was done in conjunction with Access-Life and is a recreational opportunity for those with special challenges to experience fun activities designed with them in mind. We provide a safe and loving environment for individuals and their families to relax and have fun together. After playing a variety of games (bowling, Connect4, BINGO, and custom-made games), the participants enjoyed crafts including decorating mini-tote bags, making a take-home flower pot arrangement, and making a caterpillar on a leaf. Easel painting was a big hit. The Sunshine Ambassadors entertained with their routines and we all enjoyed group singing. Twenty-three participants, twenty-four family members, and twenty-eight volunteers made this our best Spring Fling yet! The Mission Team extends a special “Thank You” to all who volunteered from SGUMC and the wider community. Carnegie Hall Auction On May 17, the chancel choir put on a dinner and auction to raise money to send them to sing at Carnegie Hall in November. Over 100 people were in attendance, and a jaw-dropping $15,000 was raised! Linda and the choir would like to say thank you to everyone who helped and bought- they couldn't have done it without you! Youth Sunday On May 19th the youth brought on the rain at our special youth-led services. We are privileged to have such a strong youth presence in our church as well as a dedicated youth leader. End of the Year Pool Party We celebrated our last Wednesday night of the school year with a pool party at the Yarnell's house on May 22. We had a great time swimming and socializing. Thank you to the Yarnells for being such amazing hosts, and to the Adult Bible Study for providing the food for us all! Church Picnic The Cottons hosted the annual church picnic by the lake this past Sunday, and we all enjoyed the sunshine and high water! It was a great time of fellowship and, as Cotton would say, "letting our hair down." Thank you to the Cottons as well as to all who brought and cooked the food! what's NewKidz Corner 5th Grade Bible Study This summer, Ashley Wren is hosting a Bible study for the graduating fifth graders to help better prepare them for middle school.
