Here at Shady Grove, the change in the weather means we are approaching the holiday season, and we can't wait for you to see what we have in store! updatesBallinger Farm Seventy-six church members gathered at Ballinger Farm on a sunny day in mid-October to hunt for pumpkins and get lost in the corn maze. It was a great time of fun and fellowship! King's Kidz Choir Shady Grove's King's Kidz participated in Sunday services twice this month, both singing and signing for the congregation. We are proud of our growing children's group! Young Adult Small Group In October, young adults throughout the church met together for dinner to discuss ways to be more involved at Shady Grove as well as ways that they could continue to build relationships with each other. We are thankful for such a dedicated group of young people at Shady Grove! Fall-A-Palooza Our annual Fall-A-Palooza was a huge success with over 450 people participating in and attending the event! The trunks were superb this year, with "Dry Bones" winning the trunk contest (pictured above). A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who went out of their way to make this event incredible- we couldn't have done it without you! what's newkidz corner Children's Christmas Play On December 18, the church will come together for a Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long. In between songs, our children will be portraying scenes from Jesus' birth narrative. We will be practicing these scenes on Wednesday nights during the fall, so if your child would like to be a part, make sure they attend Wednesday night activities from 5:45-7:30. Volunteers Needed Ashley Wren is looking for volunteers to help within the Children's Ministry on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. If you are interested in being a part of teaching kids about Jesus or have any questions, please contact her at children@shadygrovedandridge.org or call the church office. Under Construction Our children's area will be under construction beginning on November 2 as we are creating a bigger space for our kids to gather. Please bear with us while we continue our project throughout the winter. November 13 Children will NOT be meeting on Wednesday night, November 13. We will see you on the 20th! November Birthdays Mrs. Ashley and Co. would like to wish a very happy birthday to Isaiah Alexander in the month of November! ignite youth October Recap During the month October, our youth helped with the annual SGUMC Fall- A- Palooza. They helped by preparing for the event, supporting games, and setting up and tearing down. Our youth also continue to work with Access Life Ministry. During the month October, our youth had the opportunity to help support with preparation of items to be sent to Belize. We want to say thank you for all of your help with being the hands of feet of Jesus Christ. November Mission Projects On Saturday, November 9th, Ignite Youth will help support The Turkey Dinner from 4pm-7pm. Our youth will help by setting tables, serving, and cleaning up. If you are able to help, make sure you sign up with Eddie Thomas. November Sunday Mornings Sunday, November 3 Ignite Youth will be participating in both services for All Saints' Day. Join us as we remember the ones who went before us. During the next several months our youth will be diving deep into the book of Matthew. We would love for you to join our Small Group on Sunday mornings at 10am. November Wednesday Nights During the month of November we will be doing a series called Us for Them. The Big idea is that GOD is for YOU. We hope to see everyone on Wednesdays at 5:45pm. Youth Council Meeting Join us Thursday, November 7th at 6:30pm to learn about what’s happening with youth. Volunteers are requested to be there and any youth that would like to participate are encouraged to attend. Volunteer Recognition This month we would like to recognize Renee Salyers, who leads our Middle School Group. Renee joined us in 2018 and is an integral part of the success in our youth program at SGUMC. She has taken on a different role within our youth program this year, working directly with our 6th and 7th graders. Renee’s ability to connect with them has allowed our youth to have fun while learning about Jesus. We would like to thank Mrs. Renee for all she does for the Ignite Youth program. notes from the music department Carnegie Hall The Chancel Choir is getting more excited every day for the upcoming trip to sing at Carnegie Hall. We will be part of a larger choir that is privileged to sing Mary McDonald and Joel Raney’s “Sing Christmas”. We are leaving on the 13th of November and flying to New York. Friday and Saturday will be spent in rehearsal with the composers. The final concert is Sunday, the 17th at 8:30 PM. Afterwards, we have a dinner to attend. Sunday will be spent in rehearsal with the orchestra and sound checks in the hall. What an opportunity for this small- but mighty- choir! They are hard working and very dedicated. Christmas Concert On December 15th here at Shady Grove, the Chancel Choir will present the beautiful music from Carnegie Hall in concert in our sanctuary at 4:00. We will be accompanied by Bethany Smith, who is the composer’s daughter. Mark your calendars for a wonderful time of Christmas music and fellowship. Turkey Dinner Our annual Turkey Dinner will be held on Saturday, November 9, from 4-7pm. The cost is $8 per person, and children 6 and under eat free. The proceeds go to the Mission Team for their projects and donations. Everyone’s help is needed. The sign-up sheet for roasting turkey breasts, furnishing food items, and working during the dinner is in the narthex. Make sure to invite your friends and family! Escape Room Outing On Friday, November 22 at 5pm, Ignite Youth will be visiting an escape room. The cost is $25 per person. Join us for a time of fellowship, food, and fun. Please make sure you sign up with Eddie Thomas no later than November 15. Office Closings The church office will be closed on Monday, November 18th and Wednesday and Thursday, November 27-28. Please plan your office visits accordingly. Wednesday Night Activities November 27 There will be no Wednesday night activities on November 27th as we will be on Thanksgiving break. We hope everyone takes the time to be with their families. Breakfast with Santa Join us on Saturday, December 7th from 9-11 as we journey through CandyLand in search of Santa! Along the way we will find pancakes, crafts, and activities and will end at King Candy's castle to take a picture with Santa! All are invited to this free, family friendly event.
