Weekly announcements from Shady Grove

Hello Church Family!
Read below for a few announcements, but first a personal message from Pastor Jason:

"Earlier this week, United Methodist pastors and churches received a letter from our Bishop, Reverend Mary Taylor, addressing the current and ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic on Holston Conference faith communities.
It is the thinking of our Bishop that it remains unsafe to resume in-person worship in our church buildings. If anyone would like to read her letter outlining her reasoning, you can see it here: https://www.holston.org/post/bishop-taylor-churches-to-remained-closed-13651862.
Bishop Taylor says, 'Our United Methodist Churches are not to be open. We will reopen our churches when it is safe to do so across the entire conference.'
For some of us at Shady Grove this is difficult news to hear as we have now experienced two months of canceled in-person services and the Bishop's letter presumes at least another month and a half of only online worship. This news is particularly disappointing to many in our church as our Tennessee government has now relaxed restrictions on churches and the Bishop's mandate to remain 'closed' stands in contrast to the actions of our governor.
For others, I know the Bishop's order to continue canceling in-person worship is comforting and welcome news.
Regardless of our opinion on the Bishop's action, we are required to not meet in person for the foreseeable future.
This saddens me as I truly long for the joy of worshiping and gathering together to celebrate our Savior Christ and the communion of believers. I also recognize the mantle of responsibility weighing upon our Bishop and believe she is acting as she feels is best for our churches, witness, and communities that we love.
I hope you will continue to join us for online worship, devotional videos, and Zoom Bible studies. I also hope you will continue to join me in calling, texting, sending cards, and praying for one another.
God is yet advancing this Gospel, even in this unprecedented time! I dearly love you, Shady Grove, and anxiously wait for the day when we can all be together in the house of worship we love.
In Christ,
Pastor Jason

-This year's Holston Annual Conference Hands-on Project is providing food buckets for starving people in Liberia.  Even though Annual Conference has been postponed, the shipment of buckets will still take place in early June. This year, because of COVID-19, we are doing things differently than in the past.  Instead of giving you a list of food items to purchase, we have decided to buy the food in bulk to put in the buckets.  We are asking you to help us "purchase" a filled bucket by contributing $25. This includes bucket, lid, food and shipping.  Our goal is to send 40 buckets.  You may send a check to the church and designate it for Food Bucket.  If you prefer to give cash, call Helen McClaren at 731-694-7271 and she will arraign to get the money from you.  Church family, we may be experiencing hardship right now, but these people always suffer from lack of food and other necessities that we take for granted.  Help us reach our goal of 40 buckets.  God bless each of you. - Helen McClaren

-As many of you know, Shady Grove will host a Guy Penrod concert on September 21, 2020 at 7:00pm. If you would like to buy tickets for this concert, click this link: https://www.itickets.com/events/437692 . The tickets are $25 a piece, and there is a limited amount available. If you have any questions about this concert, you can email Linda Matthews at sunsetred34116@gmail.com.

-There are many ways that this church has found to meet together, particularly over Zoom. Listed below are the various Zoom meetings that happen each week with small groups throughout the church. If you would like to attend one of these meetings, please email the group leader and ask for an invite.
--- Ignite Youth- Monday, 7:00pm led by Eddie Thomas
--- High School Girls- Tuesday, 6:30pm led by Tammy Knierim
---King's Kidz- Tuesday, 7:00pm led by Ashley Wren
--- Adult Bible Study- Wednesday, 6:00pm, led by Jason McIntosh
--- Women's Small Group- Thursday, 6:30 led by Sharon Steinberg (email Tammy Knierim)
--- David Rankin's Sunday School Class- Sunday, 7:00, led by David Rankin

We hope you are all staying safe and well. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you!

Weekly announcements from shady grove

Hello Church Family!
Listed below are our announcements for this week:
-We will still hold our Administrative Council meeting on April 26th at 3pm, but it will be over Zoom. Leadership will be sent an e-mail invitation to join the meeting. If you are not on the leadership team and wish to "attend", send your email address to Ashley at assist@shadygrovedandridge.org and you will be sent an invitation. If you are not familiar with how to use Zoom, please see the instructions at the end of this email.
- If you would like to be sent a copy of the Upper Room devotion for May-June, please call the office at 865-397-7453 to be added to the mail list. If you are calling after 3pm Mon-Thur, please leave a message.
- By now you will have seen that the governor has extended the stay-at-home order until April 30. As such, we will not meet at the church and the office will continue to be closed through April. The United Methodist cabinet for our conference has been in meetings this week to lay out a plan for return, and we will update you as we hear, but as of now our plans are still very tentative as we go into May. Though our hope is that we will be able to meet together again some time in May, we want to prepare you as best we can for the fact that things are going to look different when we first come back together. We are still going to need to follow CDC social distancing guidelines to protect those around us. We know that this church is a very loving church, and that we love to give hugs and handshakes, but we must do what we can to protect our fellow believers even as we are back together in the church building. The church staff is working with a team put together specifically to come up with an action plan for when we are back together. More details will be forthcoming, but we want to ask for your cooperation in advance so that we can continue to meet together after the stay-at-home order has been lifted.
- In the meantime, there are many ways that this church has found to meet together, particularly over Zoom. Listed below are the various Zoom meetings that happen each week with small groups throughout the church. If you would like to attend one of these meetings, please email the group leader and ask for an invite.
--- Ignite Youth- Monday, 7:00pm led by Eddie Thomas
---King's Kidz- Tuesday, 7:00pm led by Ashley Wren
--- Adult Bible Study- Wednesday, 6:00pm, led by Jason McIntosh
--- Women's Small Group- Thursday, 6:30 led by Sharon Steinberg (email Tammy Knierim)
--- David Rankin's Sunday School Class- Sunday, 7:00, led by David Rankin

We hope everyone is staying safe and well. We have heard so many positive comments on how you all are checking on each other, and we want to encourage you to continue to do so!
Until we are together again,
Pastor Jason

Hello Church Family!

We have a few announcements that we would like to share with you this week:

-Pastor Jason will be preaching during the DMA Holy Thursday service held online at noon today. You can watch the live video here: www.fbcdt.org

-Tonight Shady Grove will host an online Maundy Thursday service at 7:00pm on the King Street Modern Worship Facebook page. Due to the extraordinary circumstances, Bishop Taylor has allowed us to share communion via the internet, so during the service tonight you are invited to share communion by taking bread and juice at home and sharing in the Lord's supper with Pastor Jason.

-Tomorrow, April 10, Ashley is setting up an Easter Egg Hunt kit pick up from 4-6 at Shady Grove. Each kit will have 24 stuffed eggs, an Easter activity for the whole family, and an Easter story book. She will line them up on the sidewalk outside the church to be picked up. There are only 50 bags available, so it is first come, first served. Each family can take one bag. You can email her at children@shadygrovedandridge.org with any questions.

- We invite you to join us online for two Easter services: our Sunrise Service at 7:00am and our regularly held service at 10:00am. Both services will be posted on the King Street Modern Worship Facebook page, shared with the Shady Grove United Methodist Church Facebook page, and posted on the website the next day.

We hope you are all doing well, and as always, please let us know if you need anything. We are praying for you!

We know that many of you look forward to the DMA services during Holy Week each year in Dandridge. We wanted to share the following from the DMA about those services:

The Dandridge Ministerial Association will continue to hold their annual Holy Week Services; however, services will be available online only.  Visit www.fbcdt.org each day at 12 noon and click on the link marked Watch Holy Week.  On Monday and Tuesday, services will be led by First United Methodist with Rev. Brian Meyers speaking on Monday and The Rev. Brad Napier speaking on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, the noon service will be led by Hopewell Presbyterian with Rev. Cory Hammett as the devotional speaker.  On Thursday, services will be led by the Dandridge Full Gospel Church with Dr. Jason McIntosh as speaker.  Good Friday’s noon service will be led by First Baptist in Dandridge with Dr. Justin Terrell speaking.  All services will be livestreamed from First Baptist Church in Dandridge and available at their website, www.fbcdt.org.  Contributions made electronically during the livestream will go directly to the Dandridge Ministerial Association Scholarship Fund that supports local high school seniors preparing for college.

We hope you will all be able to access these services from home. Please let us know if you have any questions.
